We are pleased to announce the resumption of sales as we have secured a supply of rare Kurogaki wood.

[Custom-Made Production]
Each piece is carefully crafted to order, starting from wood selection. Please allow approximately one month for delivery.
Note: Photos are for reference only. Wood grain and coloration vary from piece to piece.

What is Kurogaki?
Kurogaki, or "Black Persimmon," is an exceptionally rare type of wood caused by a natural mutation in persimmon trees.
It is said to occur in only one tree out of 10,000 and only in those over 100 years old. Since ancient times, starting in the Nara period, Kurogaki has been treasured as a material for fine crafts. Due to its rarity, it is often sliced thinly and used for decorative veneers or box-making.

In contrast, we have gathered thick Kurogaki wood over time to create tumi-isi blocks.
The natural patterns of this wood resemble a landscape reminiscent of ink-wash paintings, making it truly one-of-a-kind.

While prices fluctuate depending on availability, considering the ongoing scarcity of such wood, we do not expect prices to decrease in the future. Even raw pieces of this material may become more precious over time.

Tumi-isi is a collection of polyhedral wooden blocks designed to develop balance and creativity. These blocks can be stacked, arranged, or displayed, sparking the user’s imagination as a versatile object.

Each piece is hand-faceted by skilled artisans to ensure unique shapes and sizes while achieving aesthetic harmony as a single object. The entire process, from sourcing materials to inspection, is carried out in the Yoshino region of Nara Prefecture, Japan.

【黒柿とは】
柿の木の突然変異で起こる超貴重樹種「黒柿」。
1万本に1本、そして100年越えの木にしか発生しないとも言われる黒柿は、古くは奈良時代より工芸品の材料として珍重されてきました。実は貴重がゆえに、そのほとんどが薄くスライスされ箱物や化粧材として使われています。
そんな中、厚みのある黒柿材を時間をかけて集めtumi-isiを作りました。

自然が生み出したその配色は、水墨画のような景色に見立てることができる逸品です。

時期によって価格は変動しますが、今後の木材枯渇をみるともう値段が下がることは
今後無いように思います。
塊だけでも貴重になりそうです。
